Consumer Fireworks
State law permits resident to discharge fireworks during specified times. There are very specific requirements about obtaining, storing and discharging fireworks. This page contains important information about consumer fireworks along with safety considerations/requirements.
While Harrison Township and the Harrison Township Fire Department have no restrictions on consumer fireworks more strict than the State law, the village you reside in might. Please check with your local authorities about any restrictions that may be in place where you live.
Permissible Discharge Dates & Times
Residents may discharge fireworks on the following dates and times:
- July 3rd, 4th & 5th and the weekends immediately before and following (4:00 PM – 11:00 PM)
- Labor Day Weekend (4:00 PM – 11:00 PM)
- Diwali (4:00 PM – 11:00 PM)
- New Year’s Eve (4:00 PM – 11:59 PM)
- New Year’s Day (12:00 AM – 1:00 AM & 4:00 PM – 11:00 PM)
- Chinese New Year (4:00 PM – 11:00 PM)
- Cinco de Mayo (4:00 PM – 11:00 PM)
- Memorial Day Weekend (4:00 Pm – 11:00 PM)
Juneteenth (4:00 PM – 11:00 PM)

Prohibited Conduct
- No person under the age of 18 may handle or discharge fireworks.
- No person under the age of 18 may be within 150 feet of the discharge point of aerial fireworks.
- Fireworks cannot be discharged indoors.
- Tents are prohibited from the discharge site while fireworks are being discharged.
- Fireworks cannot be stored at the discharge site in a manner that accidental ignition would have a high likelihood of occurring.
- Pointing, aiming or discharging fireworks at or towards any person or object including bystanders, spectators, emergency services personnel, vehicles, aircraft watercraft or any structure is prohibited.
- Discharging fireworks within the boundaries of any federal, stat or local forest, park, recreation area or place of nature conservancy is prohibited.
- Discharging any firework in a manner that would be deemed hazardous to property or endanger a person or animal is prohibited.
- Fireworks may not be discharged on public property or private school property.
- Fireworks may not be discharged in any street, highway, alley or public way.
- Smoking material, matches, lighters or open flame devices within 50 feet of any area where fireworks are present is prohibited.
